The Koli community is the oldest local community to have inhabited the city of Mumbai. Primarily fisherfolks, the Kolis reside in little pockets that hug the coastline called Koliwadas. Madh Island has its own koliwadas where the community thrives by fishing and earning a livelihood. Besides their seafood-heavy cuisine and homemade spice blends, the Kolis are known for their traditional folk dance form that pays homage to the occupation of fishing and the sea.
